Atty. Glenn Chong, a lawyer of former Senator Bongbong Marcos has lambasted Romulo Macalintal, the lawyer of Vice President Leni Robredo after the latter deemed "improper" the request of Marcos for the Supreme Court to deploy three hearing officers for his poll protest.
"ANG TAONG TALAGANG MAY ITINATAGO O KINATATAKUTAN AY GAGAWIN ANG LAHAT HUWAG LAMANG MABISTO," Chong said.
Macalintal said the motion is premature since the SC which serves as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal has not yet held a preliminary conference on Marcos' protest.
"Without the preliminary conference, the motion to have three hearing officers is practically intended to condition the minds of the people, if not those of the members of the PET, of the issues Marcos seems to dictate upon the tribunal. We are not even sure whether the three causes of action raised by Marcos in his protest would be sustained by the PET" Macalintal said.
Macalintal added that three haring officers will be impractical as there is only one lawyer for the protestant and protestee thus the lawyer cannot be present in every stage of the hearing and cannot be in three places at the same time.
Chong said that the Robredo camp is hiding something.
He said Marcos' request was only a petition for the SC to fasten the progress of the case.
"Unang-una, ang motion ni BBM ay isang mungkahi lamang sa PET upang mapadali ang protesta dahil nga summary ang nature at may preferential status ang mga election protest cases. Ibig sabihin, pinapaiksi ang buong proceso at pinapaboran ang mga protesta kaysa ibang mga kaso dahil nga may nakatakdang termino na matatapos kaya kailangang tapusin din ang protesta sa mas madaling panahon."
Chong also questioned why the Robredo camp is agitated by the "preliminary" move, when they protested how it took Marcos seven months to file a motion.
"Saan ba lulugar si BBM? Noong nagfile siya ng motion na magkaroon na ng preliminary conference matapos ang 7 buwan na hindi umusad ang protesta, siya ang pinagbintangan ni Robredo at Macalintal na sanhi ng pagkaantala ng protesta dahil bakit daw nag-antay pa siya ng 7 buwan bago magfile ng motion. Ngayon, inaakusahan naman si BBM ng dalawang ito na premature o wala pa sa panahon ang pagfile ng motion na ito. Kapag gustong lumusot, ang daming paraan!"
The lawyer insisted that three hearing commissioners are allowed under Rules 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62 ng 2010 Rules of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
He also hit Macalintal on his defense, as Robredo has three lawyers anyway.
"Pang-apat, 3 naman ang abogado ni Robredo. Kung igigiit ni Macalintal na dapat ay physically present siya sa bawat pagdinig sa bawat hearing commissioner kaya hindi ito praktikal sa kanya dahil hindi naman mahahati ang katawan niya kung sabay-sabay ang hearings, ibig sabihin wala siyang tiwala sa kanyang mga kasamang abogado. Kung ganun, bakit ang sumulat sa sagot at counter-protest ni Robredo ay ang kanyang mga kasamang abogado at hindi si Macalintal mismo?" he said.
Chong emphasized that the hastening of the case is detrimental to the Robredo camp thus they want it delayed.
"ANG PAGMAMADALI SA PROTESTA AY ISANG MORTAL NA PANGANIB SA KAMPO NI ROBREDO. KAYA AYAN, TODO IMBENTO UPANG MAKAIWAS SA PINANGANGAMBAHANG PELIGRO," he said.
