October 2016 was when Lascañas denied the existence of the DDS, however he has recently retracted his testimonies on the issue and now claims that the DDS does exist and it was former Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who funded them up to Php 100 000 per target.
Lacson noted how Lascañas and his “handlers” are making sure that the DDS controversy reaches a wider audience to amplify the issue.
"[They're] doing the rounds. Napaka-obvious... Anong purpose? Bakit palipat-lipat siya sa media, doing interviews? May live, may taped as live," Lacson said. "Malinaw na talagang [ginawa ito] para ma-destabilize 'yung panguluhan. Inuugoy, eh. Parang niyuyugyog."
"Obvious na 'yung audience ay ang Filipino people, if not the international community, 'yung mga international bodies like human rights groups. 'Yun ang ino-audience nila. Malinaw 'yon, maski itanggi nila, 'di naman tayo pinanganak kahapon para 'di mabasa. Malinaw na may kasamang destabilization itong effort na 'to with Lascañas," he added.
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV assisted the former Davao policeman as the latter made a “public confession” about the DDS. However, Trillanes repeatedly denies being involved in ouster plots against Duterte whom he claims to be “self-destructive” already.
